When you start planning a holiday around here, almost the same question always comes up, and it’s one of the most sensible: which area should I base myself in? It’s worth taking the pressure off straight away, because in Orihuela Costa the distances are tiny and you can reach pretty much everything in a couple of minutes by car. That said, no area is quite like the one next door: each has its own character, and landing on the one that matches your plans changes the experience a lot. Below is the essence of each, told by someone who knows the coast up close.
Villamartín: golf, quiet and houses with room to breathe
This is where Villa Capitan stands, and the feel is nothing like the seafront. Villamartín is an elevated residential area laid out around its golf courses: wide streets, lush greenery and a calm you notice the moment you arrive. Its shopping plaza has supermarkets, restaurants and terraces, and the sea is about 5 km away, barely a ten-minute drive. It’s the natural pick for anyone who puts space, a private pool and privacy first without giving up having everything close by. That’s exactly what Villa Capitan offers: 300 m² across three floors, three en-suite bedrooms, a private pool with hydromassage, two saunas and room for up to six.
Playa Flamenca: beaches, coves and a family feel
What defines this area is the mix: wide sandy beaches and rocky coves of clear water, all linked by a promenade made for walking. Shops, terraces and services cluster at the Flamenca Beach centre, and every Saturday one of the liveliest street markets in the area springs up. The overall tone is family-friendly and laid-back, with well-kept residential areas and green spaces at every turn. We’ve put together a guide to Playa Flamenca if you want the detail; from Villa Capitan you’re there in a few minutes by car.
Punta Prima: calm coves and close to Torrevieja
At the northern tip of Orihuela Costa, already up against Torrevieja, sits Punta Prima. It’s a more tucked-away, intimate area, with quiet coves — Cala Mosca, Cala Estaca — ideal for a stress-free swim. Its strong suit is how close the town is: within minutes you’re at Torrevieja’s marina, markets and bustle.
La Zenia: shopping, a Blue Flag beach and buzz
If you’re after a bit of life, La Zenia is the busiest of them all. Here are the Zenia Boulevard — the largest shopping centre in the province — and La Zenia beach, with a Blue Flag, golden sand and full services. It’s the logical choice for anyone who wants shops, restaurants and leisure around the corner, with an especially lively pulse at the height of the season.
A short hop away sit two more areas worth discovering: Cabo Roig, with its pretty coves and small marina, and Campoamor, further south, among the quietest and most residential on the coast.
How to choose for your trip
- Golf, privacy and a house with space: Villamartín, where Villa Capitan sits.
- Families with children and the beach: Playa Flamenca, for its easy beaches and gentle atmosphere.
- Couples and quiet swims: Punta Prima or the coves of Cabo Roig.
- Shopping and life: La Zenia, with the Boulevard and the beach at hand.
- Maximum calm: Campoamor, further south and residential.
The best thing about Orihuela Costa is that you’re not tied to just one: from Villamartín they’re all a few minutes away by car, so you sleep somewhere with space and quiet and head down to the beach or the Boulevard whenever the mood takes you.
