Costa Blanca weather month by month: when to visit

Almost 300 days of sun and a mild climate all year. Here's what the Costa Blanca is like season by season, so you can pick the best time for your trip.

When should you visit the Costa Blanca? It’s the question we hear most, and it comes with a catch: there’s no bad season here. This slice of southern Alicante enjoys one of the gentlest climates on the continent — roughly 300 days of sun a year and a Mediterranean that hardly ever runs to extremes — so any month works. What changes is the mood of each season. So rather than a single winning date, the useful thing is to know what each period offers and match it to your plans. Let’s break it down.

Spring (March to May): the perfect balance

If you had to pick a favourite, many would settle on this one. With highs of 18 to 24 °C, the landscape turns green again and the summer rush hasn’t arrived yet. It’s the time to head out for golf and padel, follow the coastal path, slip inland on a day trip, or linger on a terrace with no rush and no crowds. For a proper swim the water still asks for patience, though by May the first dip is on the cards. Good weather and quiet at once: hard to ask for more.

Summer (June to September): full sun and warm sea

Here comes the queen of beach seasons. The thermometer settles between 28 and 32 °C, the sea reaches that just-right temperature that makes you want to stay in, and everything comes alive: markets, beach bars and nights that stretch on. A local’s tip: save the beaches of Orihuela Costa for the early hours or sunset, leave midday for the pool or a siesta, and don’t skimp on water. It’s the recipe for a family holiday in the sun.

Autumn (October to November): the best-kept secret

October steals our heart every year. The sea still holds the summer’s warmth and lets you swim, the light stays generous, and the area breathes again after the summer bustle. In November the thermometer eases off a touch, but at midday you’re still in short sleeves. Anyone after calm, softer rates and that slow tempo that’s impossible in August will find their season here.

Winter (December to February): sun and outdoor life

Nothing like a northern European winter. In the midday sun, highs move between 16 and 18 °C, clear skies are the rule, and eating on the terrace in the depths of January surprises no one. Getting into the water takes some nerve, but for walking, golf or a day trip there’s no better season. It’s no accident that so many travellers choose to spend the cold months here: we go into it in our piece on winter sun in Orihuela Costa.

Find your ideal season

Already picturing a particular kind of trip? This quick guide pairs each plan with the months that suit it best:

  • Outdoor sport: spring and autumn open your ideal window, with temperatures that suit golf and padel and leave the summer swelter behind.
  • Days by the sea: aim for the stretch from June to early October, when the water reaches its most inviting point for a swim.
  • Family holidays: if you are tied to the school calendar, summer tips everything in your favour, with beaches, services and atmosphere all firing on full.
  • Calm and a kinder budget: autumn and winter bring thinner crowds and friendlier rates without giving up the good weather.
  • Longer stays: the months from November to March blend a mild climate with everything still running; we cover it in our guide to long winter stays.
